14th to 20th of August, 2024.
Leaving India is always a sad moment. This time was even worse. But I must confess that it was good to be back in Thailand. And as I talked with the very first Thai person, I figured out something about Thai people: they are the kindest people I have ever met during my travels. And the reason being that, they are kind in a very childish way, without thinking, very naively. I have encountered very kind people in all the countries I’ve been. African people and Asian people in general are super kind. Is just that, they are all kind in different ways, and Thai people win the game by been just as kind as children.
I spend the night at the airport and early morning I headed to Phanat Nikhom, where I had to figure out my bank situation. I would stay with a lovely couple of Russian friends, Polina and Alek. They accepted to host me in their immense house (Thai standards), which I liked very much since I first entered. The plan was to stay only a few days, as I didn’t want to disturb them for too long, and could not really afford to pay for a room in the hotel where I used to live. But part of me wanted to stay for longer in Thailand, a couple of weeks at least, so I could put my head in place, my thoughts in order, and come up with a plan. Perhaps, it was all the universe’s plan that I couldn’t, so I would carry one with my travels right away.
On the first day I arrived, while waiting for Polina and Alek to leave school at 16.30h, I went straight to the bank and managed to regain access to my earnings.
I had a great time staying with Barbie and Ken! They are lovely people and some of the few ones I can have really nice conversations, about interesting topics. And I always learn something with them. Plus, they helped me a lot, in many ways, much beyond of letting me stay with them.
During the 10 days I was in New Delhi, I couldn’t really make a plan or any decisions about what I would do next. And that’s not only because I was a mess emotionally, but also because I needed to know if I would be able to regain access to my finances. But them once I did, I had only about 24 hours to make a decision, so I could start working on a plan.
The decision was to keep travelling, going East Asia, first Cambodia, then Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia via Thailand, etc.
I left for Cambodia without having a volunteer work yet, as I was still waiting for answers. I decided to volunteer in a school in Cambodia, as there were many options for them, and then try something else, something more for myself in Vietnam.
Hitchhiking to the border was easy, as usual in Thailand, and at the border things were better than I though, as I could pay for the Visa with Thai Baht and didn’t need to change into U.S. Dollars. And then, Cambodia.
