Hitchhiking in Thailand: Way to Phi Phi Islands

Life is funny! And you really can never know! I have cried over the spilled milk many times, I know, but I have to accept the fact that life can always surprise you…

At the main road, a senior man, in an old and loud motorbike, stops for me. In somehow, we manage to understand each other, as I only intend to get further away, in a busiest sector of this same road. And that’s where this friendly gentleman drops me off.

Once there, it is not even quarter past seven, so I am pretty confident that I can make it to the 8.30 a.m. ferry. Vish…

Time keeps passing and nobody stops. A few songthaew pass by, and at some point, I ask how much would cost me to Rassada Pier, the guy answers 100 THB. Nope!

A lovely and gorgeous lady, in a sports style, with many tattoos, stops to talk with me. Initially, she tells me she can take me, but when I tell her that it is a 40 minutes ride, she apologizes but confess she is just going nearby, which is fine and I understand. But she kindly offers to call me a grab, but when I ask her the price and she check, it says 250 THB. Laugh. I quickly explain to her why I cannot pay and with wishes of good luck she leaves.

When she comes back, I’m still here. Laugh. I tell her that, even if I don’t make it to the 8.30 a.m. ferry, I still can take the 10.30 a.m., which is fine. She leaves again.

I am already embracing my destiny, accepting that I will have to rearrange my plans for Phi Phi Islands, because I will have to take the 10.30 a.m. ferry, when Ethan stops. Not the Hunt, but quite a surprise just as much.

Ethan is just a boy, 21 years old, but he is a cutie! He has a gorgeous smile and an incredible body. I think he must be in modelling or something because w-o-w! Ethan is also from London, and just like Cory from yesterday, he despites the UK and his hometown. He has been living in Dubai for the past 4 years, and is just having some holiday over here. Right now, he is going to Decathlon, but he is more than happy to drop me off wherever I need to go. How sweet!

After he arranges the directions in his phone and we start riding, I realize that his motorbike is not a scooter, but similar to a sports bike. Because of that, he can go really fast, over 90 km/h. And because we are driving in long lanes, he can easily reach that speed. But I can easily fall of the bike too, because I have The Hulk pulling me back and, at first, I am only holding in the back of the bike. But luckily for me, Ethan tells me that I should hold on him, like wrapping my arms around his chest. In the name of safety, I do it. Laugh. Some very interesting 40 minutes ride I had. Laugh.

Ethan drops me off at the clock tower. From here, I must walk a little bit until a place where I can try to catch another lift to the pier. Once there, a sweet woman offers to take me to the pier in her motorbike. It is a very short ride, about 5 minutes.

At the pier, I am just asking for information at the ticket stand, when the guy tells me that I can still catch the 8.30 a.m. ferry. What? I cannot believe it! He quickly fills up my ticket, I pay 550 THB for it, and then I board. Just like that.

P.S.: Asean Ferry / 550 THB from Phuket to Phi Phi Islands, going around Maya Bay (totally unnecessary) / almost 3 hours journey. Cover photo.
