Hitchhiking in India

I have now put my whole hitchhiking thing in India under a new perspective. After all these amazing people I have met until now, all the incredible men who have picked me up and turned out to treat me with extremely respect, tenderness and as I was their sister, I can’t understand why and how so many people were telling me to be careful; to be afraid; to not trust in any man travelling alone. You can’t keep telling me I am lucky, or that I have good karma. I just can’t accept that! I might accept that my positive attitude towards the world and the people out there, which attracts all these good people into my way. But still, there must to be a hell number of good people out there, so I am always attracting them, right?

Karan offers to drive me until Ajmer. It is on the way to Jaipur, and I was expecting for that. He is a very nice man and offers me some of his own food, cooked by his wife: a delicious paratha with ghee. He insists that I keep eating, even though I keep saying I must leave some for him, to what he replies that, it will make him and his wife way happier if I, as a guest, eat everything because I loved so much, than for himself to have it. Still, I do not finish it. Then, he stops in a food stand by the road and buys us a delicious dessert called Mawa, which basically consists of milk been slowly dried by the fire for hours, until it caramelises. It is amazing! Last, but not the least, we have some chai and dry snacks before we carry on.

Mawa; the shop owner; and Karan clearly happy that I love Mawa 😍

I am standing by the road for a very short period of time when a taxi stops. There are 2 passengers in the back seat, and one in front. Three men. When they stop, I explain to them that I am just hitchhiking, that I cannot pay, but they say that I can come for free. Wow! I take a place in the back seat and we drive all the way to Jaipur. The driver is called Babloo, as I start talking with him when the passenger sitting in front gets out at some point, and he tells me I can take his place. After Babloo dropping the other 2 men off, he drives me a bit closer to the centre of Jaipur, where I say goodbye and start looking for a way to get to Adelina’s place.

Because there was a lot of misunderstanding in my messages with Lina, it takes me a lot of time and effort to get her actual address. I first ask to use the Wi-Fi in a small hotel; I get some directions; I walk for a while; ask to use the Wi-Fi again, this time in a very fancy coffee shop; and here Lina finally manages to come and pick me up.

I will stay with Lina and her lovely daughter Amelie only for three days. Then, I decided to do a big, huge step out of my comfort zone, and go all the way to Mumbai to deliver a letter. I didn’t know for sure that by doing this, I would change my life forever! Although, something in my heart was telling me to be prepared. But first things first: and now I am in Jaipur.
